Connecting to the OS/390 System

Once you have downloaded and installed the QWS3270 files, while connected to the Internet in your usual way, start QWS3270.EXE.

If you are using a 3270 emulator program other than QWS3270, such as TCP3270 in a Humber College lab, you must set that program's options to access the Host name of the Marist College mainframe: os390.kctr.marist.edu

Click on the QWS3270 Connect menu, and in a moment or two you should be connected to Marist College OS/390 system, and see a screen like the following: click here. (Emulators other than QWS3270 will not display exactly the same screen.)

If more than a minute has gone by and you don't see that screen, make sure that your Internet connection is still working, Cancel and terminate QWS3270, and try again.

When you do see the connection screen, type the single character L (upper or lower case) and press the Enter key.

You should then see a screen containing the following prompt:

IKJ56700A ENTER USERID -

NOTE: You will be able to complete the remainder of the logon only after the instructor has activated your TSO userid and told you your password.

Type the userid KC03Bxx that the Instructor has assigned you (e.g. KC03B20), and press the Enter key. The TSO/E Logon screen should then be displayed. (Click here to see what it looks like.)

  1. Make sure that the cursor is flashing to the right of the field labelled "Password" (if necessary placing it there using the Tab or arrow keys).
  2. Type the password that has been provided to you by the instructor, and press the Enter key.

If all goes well with your logon, another screen should soon appear, line by line as your TSO session is established. Click here to see a screen like it. (Be patient: the ending three asterisks may not appear right away.)

If the system rejects your attempt to log on, repeat the above steps, starting with the entry of your userid.

Take care entering your password. If you enter it incorrectly three times in a row, the unforgiving Marist College security system will cause your userid to be REVOKED and you will lose your access to the system, so ... watch what you type for the password.

If you can't log on, post a public Discusssions message describing what went wrong in your attempts (referring to the above steps).

Warning: After getting connected to TSO, you must LOG OFF before exiting QWS3270; the next page will tell you how to do that.
